After a long semester, students always welcome winter break. This year, students at the University of Arkansas were fortunate to have an entire month off!

Students choose to do all kinds of different things during this time. Most students go home for the holidays to spend time with family and friends. Some students enjoy the break by catching up on sleep or going on vacation, while others use the time to work a part-time job and make a bit of money or work on graduate school applications.

Most of my friends went home for winter break. For some, home was Bentonville, Arkansas and for others it was Graz, Austria. One of my roommates utilized the long break by working on graduate school applications, while the other celebrated graduation by embarking on a two-week road trip from Arkansas to New Mexico, Arizona, and Colorado.

Having finished the process of applying to physical therapy programs for grad school, I went south to escape the St. Louis winter! I spent a week in Mexico exploring the Yucatan Peninsula. I stayed about 8 km outside of Playa del Carmen and visited archeological sites such as Chichen Itza. It was fascinating seeing the remnants and ruins of this great ancient city, and to hear the different theories behind what each building’s purpose was. After a relaxing break, I am back and ready to take on my last semester at the University of Arkansas!
