alfredoBurgers and pizzas were the common food I had known of for years as being ‘American meals,’ but little did I know, after coming to the US, I have seen with my eyes there are numerous kinds of food here, but mostly Mexican, Chinese or Italian recipes. My favorite dishes so far are Pesto Alfredo Pasta and omelets. These two meals look simple, but they are SO delicious!

omletOmelets are the leading breakfast food at the University of Arkansas dining halls. Often there is a long queue for this breakfast item, and students are willing to wait patiently for it. Fortunately, Chartwells – the University’s main food service provider – has one of the best breakfast omelet makers in the state! In fact, just an omelet made with 3 eggs and my other preferred ingredients will satiate me for half the day. I hardly ever eat anything before an omelet for breakfast.

Also, I like cooking on weekends as well. I am not the kind of person who fancies restaurant meals that much. Rather, I have always enjoyed my homemade food than whatever I buy outside. However, I have tried some good Chinese cuisines at East Buffet and Pavilion in Fayetteville. East buffet is off College Avenue, while Pavilion is close to Walmart on MLK Road.

redredMost of the African cuisines I cook are Ghanaian dishes, such as Red-red, Banku with peanut butter soup or okra stew, and jollof rice. I often buy all the ingredients from an African store known as the ‘Tropical Food Market’ in Rogers, or some from an Asian market called ‘Asian Amigo Supermarket’ because very few of the minor ingredients can be purchased at Walmart.

In all, I think these two – omelets and Alfredo pasta – are my favorite American foods that you should try!
